As salaam alaikum Imam Siraj, I have been coming to The Majid, since about 1995 I have seen what you and the brothers of Taqwa have been able to accomplish (By the leave of Allah Subhana wa ta Allah.) It is extremely motivating to see such inspirational individuals when I come to Jumah.
In the distant pass you were generous enough to give me some simple counsel on my marriage life (to a woman of whom has not as of yet taken her sha hadda )you explained that it wasnt up to me but only in Allah's hands, and make sure my back yard was clean first, so I may be an example.
You also pointed out the other directions that could be taken.
Today I still struggle to do what I know to be morale correct, because of the child between us. I have considered divorce, but I know a sacrifice must be made for the children of this deen also.
There are too many of the brothers who are willing to give up and leave their Muslim children in a bad predicament with a scornful ex wife or scornful co-hort.
Sometimes the easiest thing is not the best thing for everyone relative, therefore I still hang tough with this situation. I am an American Muslim and I had agreed to marriage before I was truly in the fold of Islam, therefore I believe the verbal agreement that was made by her was not honored because the marriage was based on the pretense that she would begin to take steps to accept Islam shortly after marriage.(Therefore it is a breech of contract)
10 years later I still Father without a Muslim wife,I really dont know if I have done the right thing or if I have put forth a terrible sin in this case.
I have subjected my son to many seasons of unrest in our house among other things.
I have attempted to make prayer consistent in our dwelling, and attempted to invite her to the Masjid to meet for counsel ,but I am unsuccessful still.
I truly believe Allah has a plan for me
but I am not sure my present wife is part of it.
I have prayed on this, but I am still trying
to kick shaitan out of my home.
I have taken a look at myself like you have
advised but, I still feel I cant reach my full potential as a believer in this present state.
I want my child to be near to Allah therefore I cannot abandon him to her,I think that would be a sin to my credit.
Right now I struggle mightily with my dean and Iman , because of the inconsistency in my Household ,but Allah has kept me, and calmed my mind and spirit at times of extreme Anger, I would like to know when you may be at the Masjid so I may speak with you in the near future, if not to come to some conclusion then maybe just to help me in organizing my thoughts to recharge my will
spiritually.
I know you know who I am ,Im always the one in the kutba looking at the floor when you look my way. I understand I must take your words personally and to heart. Maybe there are many others like me but, I understand I have much trouble doing what needs to be done at times.
I and my son, are the only 2 Muslims in my whole family of so called christians people who dont keep the sabbath day.
I try hard to be a truly good example of a Muslim but I struggle much to stay upright and not falter. Thank you for all your time I know it is important May Allah bless you with a healthy life that you may continue to be a pleasure to him(Allah subhanawatalah) and a wonderful benefactor to many of the Believers of whom you are a beacon in this sea of confusion of which is The United States.

As-salaamu 'alaykum, Brother Imam. One of my favorite audiotapes of all time is your speech, "Allah Made No Hardship In Deen". I'm not sure exactly when and where I bought it, but it may have been as late as the Fall of 2000 in Potomac, MD, or as early as Spring 1997 in Philadelphia. I have lost the tape, miss it dearly, and can't find it available anywhere online--even for sale. Please help. A lot of individuals and communities near to hear that speech. I started having doubts about Islam a while back and I'm wondering if anybody can give me a convincing answer to these questions.

1) Why will all non-muslims end up in hell for eternity? even if they truly weren’t convinced that Islam was the right religion? Why will 99 percent of the children of Adam end up in hell? I know a lot of non-muslims that are great people (not because of their fear of god or their hope for heaven; but because of the natural goodness of their hearts). Don't you think that morality shouldn't be limited to religion?

2) Why were the 1st 3 generations portrayed as the greatest people of all time when there was really a lot of domestic tension?, including Abu Bakr waging war on people who refused to pray and pay the tax? If their generation went through so much violence and heresy, then how can they possibly be the best? These people saw the prophet in person, yet they stopped praying. what does this say about our generation?

3) Why was the prophet portrayed as an honest peaceful man?, when he raided innocent Jewish tribes? For example, he technically sanctioned the slaughter of the tribe of Banu Qurayzah. All the men, even the innocent ones, were slaughtered. Muhammad did not show nor tell anybody to have mercy on them.

4) Why do people always seem to forget the scientific errors in the quran (Mountains stop the earth from shaking?)? It is a known fact that most earthquakes happen near mountains (look it up). The idea that the mountains act as pegs was an ancient concept. It was something you would hear during the time of the prophet and something that you would not hear today.

5) What friggin sahih hadeeth relates the time of asr with the shadow of objects? Where do these "Madhabs" get their proof for their opinions? Show me the hadeeth!

6) Why are sunnis so blatantly ignorant of the argument that Ali should be the khalifa? The Hadeeth of Ghadir Khum is a lot more clear cut that he should be the mawla of the ummah. The shia interpretation makes so much more sense. The sunni's reason for making Abu Bakr the caliph is obvious ignorance.

7) Why was there a civil war between Aishah and Ali? If it was over the prosecution of the murderers of Uthman, then don't you think Aishah could have just talked it out with Ali? Yes, she could have!... if that was the case. There was no reason to start a civil war and have more people killed. The real reason was because she didn't like the the idea that ali was caliph. prove me wrong.

8) Are we allowed to question Islam? What do you think about the "Satanic verses" by Salman Rushdie? Those verses did obviously exist because it is mentioned in all the early biographies of the prophet, including the one by Ibn Ishaaq.

9) Why did God create man? Is it to worship him? If he is all-mighty and self-sufficient, why would he need to be worshiped? He doesn't need us. I guess a better question would be: why did he create man to worship him? or why does god want to be worshiped? Is god so self-absorbed, that he thinks it's ok for people to spend their whole lives wasting their worship on him as opposed to fighting for secular causes (such as Environmentalism or Vegetarianism)?.

10) (Talking mainly to "so-called" Alims) Why should I listen to you? Am I suppose to believe you didn't grow up under a certain Madhab or Sect? Am I suppose to believe you were taught things without any bias? Will you really say anything negative about Islam, considering that your job is basically to point out the positive? Do you have a degree in social studies or sciences that is as good as your degree in Islamic studies?

AsSalam Mualkuim
Dear br. Zaccariah
Alot of your questions reflect an inner light in your heart. If your mind is in questioning
mode it will never be able to reason.
May Allah bless you to Ask Him for Guidance
and peace of mind. Allah is the best to guide.
Allah is the creator and we are the created.
there for we are not the ones who determin our
purpose. We Hear And We Obey. The End is better if you but knew. Allah puts you here for a limited time to gain a great Mercy from Him
which we all pray is for Paradise and His Good Pleasure. So if He tells us to bow down all of our years here on earth with the reward of eternity of good it is more than what we could have asked for. Or would you rather spend your life questioning imams and being argumentitive about everything you learn about islam until you die and you meet your creator. What excuse will you try to offer. Just as the jews continued to question Musa and even when they were saved from the Pharo and saw the miricals of Allah they went and worshiped the calf.
We all want to follow the straight way but if you are so busy taking several rulers out to see if it is straight how far will you get.
You can analysis so much till it makes you paralisised and you don't move at all.
2008-09-16 00:05:51 GMT
Author:Anonymous
P.S. I am not saying follow blindly
but at least follow something.
Aparently you want to follow something
that is why you have so many questions.
As for the religion of Islam.
Do you believe that there is One God?
Do you believe that Muhammad (SAW) is his last messenger?
Do you belive in the Angels and books and Prophets all sent by God?
Do you believe in The day of Judgment?
Do you believe in the Heven and Hell?
I am sure with all of your research you
know very well what is the basic's to become a
muslim. So if you are truely waiting for someone to answer those questions and hope that
Allah will bless you with another day of your life to continue to debate people instead of worshiping and submitting your will to Allah
then keep on gambling. Peace

I'm Zac, former president of msa of brooklyn tech and the first person to ever start the jumuah prayer in the history of my school. Those facts are there, not to show off, but to show you that i was real sincere in my islam and that these doubts are real. I don't believe in blind faith and so I questioned my religion and this is where allah has led me. After praying 99% of my 5 daily prayers for 5 straight years, I think that allah has given me this test to see if I will follow the true path; cuz allah will hold accountable what we see, what we hear and what we do and if we were ignorant of the message that we were given. If I don't get a clear answer for any of these questions, it will show me that Islam is not the bayinah (clear evidence) or the true religion and that allah has guided me because of this.

I don't know what the true religion is; but because of my sincerity, I know that allah will guide me to what is right. Maybe islam is right? maybe he just made me go through this whole episode just to test my sincerity. If that's the case, I know I passed.

Now, I don't want you to use any theological arguements or assumptions to interpret my intentions or allah's intentions. You can't argue any of that. All I want is straightforward clear answers. If you noticed, I was avoiding euphemisms in my questions because I just want direct answers. I don't want you to rephrase my questions or avoid any of my points. If you can't answer all of the questions, then just answer whatever you can.

I'm just sending this to remind you to answer these questions? Are you working on it? Any progress?

Hi Zac.. If I had a dime for everytime I heard "I was so & so, with such & such piety but now I have questions.." I could have bought the world. Seemed you have tried hard to sound very learned and intelligent about Islam. You have failed to convince. Your question on Tawheed are easily answered. If you claimed to be learned, you would have found the answers to your own questions on Tawheed. The thing was, you were looking for faults and excuses, not answers. Therefore, you do not deserve one. Do not insult Allah by saying He knows your intention is right, seeking the truth. And He will guide you accordingly. The thing is, firstly, you have to believe in Him before that. His Books, Messengers, Angels and Ordainments. If you were ever a Muslim before, you should know that. Beginning of Surat Al-Yaseen has told us about people like you. That was 1400 years ago. So you are not new, you are not the first and not the last. Neither that you are unique. Greater men than you had fallen before so another apostate just a foam in the ocean. Questions on history, depends on whose text you are reading. Tawheed is the foundation, you do not get that right, the rest do not matter. Another one apostated himself, so what, many more willingly converting. You manage to sway another into your way, so what, we are in no need of another Munafiqun anyway. Haven't you heard, still is the world's fastest growing religion. With or without you. It is not humans who open the heart of Men, it is all in Allah hands. So, have a good long life. Allah have mercy the BELIEVERS, not Muslims... BELIEVERS

And fyi Islam is not the fastest growing religion. (I guess this shows us that even YOU don't question what you are told! what a shame that we follow people like you.)

--------------------
CLAIM 1-There are more new Muslims every day/month/year than new adherents to any other religion.
--------------------
A Muslim once tried to prove this claim to me using the statistics shown on this website: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=3835

ISLAM:
Growth Rate: 1.84%
Adherents: 1.3 billion

CHRISTIANITY:
Growth Rate: 1.38 percent
Adherents: 2.2 billion

Using their own source a little bit of simple mathematics disproves their false conclusion.

Islam: Growth*Adherents
= 1.84%*1,300,000,000 =23,920,000

Christianity: Growth*Adherents
= 1.38%*2,200,000,000 =30,360,000

Therefore, as Christianity is gaining more adherents per period than Islam, Islam cannot possibly be gaining the most adherents out of any religion.

-----------------------
CLAIM 2 - Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world by % increase
-----------------------
By % increase Islam cannot be the fastest growing religion in the world. This is because the bias of a smaller sample size will make smaller raw increases larger as a percentage.

In this case, usually the worlds smallest religions are the fastest growing by %

-----------------------
CLAIM 3 - Islam, unlike all other religions, attributes growth to mass conversions.
-----------------------
I have never seen any evidence of this. However, the most reliable sources on the topic credit the growth in Islam to above average birth rates in the Islamic world. Out of the major religions- Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism only Christianity is credited to increases by conversions as opposed to simple birth rates.

Assalamualaikum brother,

I hope you are doing well. I need your urgent help.

I'm a student and currently taking a course i-e Human Rights Laws. I have also taken Islam and Human rights as a unit and therefore I want myself to read and get the exact knowledge of what Islam actually say on those. Because I'm not very pleased by the modernist's views on Islam. I want to know what are the fiqhi rulings on all those issues. I've asked some friends but no one could suggest me authentic books. Can you help me please? its really urgent and extremely necessary.. i cant see muslims and non muslims mocking Islamic rules in front of me yet i cant do anything nor can i defend due to serious lack of knowledge!

I'm listing below the topics on which I want to have detailed read.. I want to read the opinions of all the four respectable imams. InshaAllaho ta'ala.

The right to freedom of thought, Conscience and Religion (Proselytizing, Heresy, Apostasy)
Right to freedom of opinion and expression (Hate speech, Blasphemy, Religious sensitivities, obscenity laws)
Right of minority groups (in terms of ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities) this includes Muslims living in non-Muslim states as minorities and non-Muslims living in Muslim states as minorities.
Islamic law and the prohibition of torture, Cruel, inhuman and degrading treatments and punishments (The hudud, Tazir and Qisas punishments and the Death Penalty)
Women's rights (Gender Equality, Women's rights and Islamic personal status laws and public law)
Children's rights (generally, the age at which children are not classified as children anymore, status of non-marital children and the principle of best interest of the child)
the Right to fair trial and due process (Islamic judicial process and Pre-trial, In-trial and post-trial rights)

Jazakallaho Ahsan al jaza

I get so upset when I hear many imams talk about family and marriage in their Friday sermons but yet you NEVER see them with their wives or with their children. It is mind boggling, how can the imams talk about family and marriages and many of them have the worst of family? I accepted islam 1979 and one of the reason I left my Christian faith is because of hypocrisy. Reverend McDonald was a good minister, his wife and his children were very active in his church. His wife reminds me of your wife sister Jameelah, Mrs McDonald was very active in the church always giving her time. Since my converting to Islam almost 30 years ago I rarely see the imams wives and their children in the community. Without contradicting myself, let me put it this way I only saw my imam's wife come in jumah at the end of the sermon and rushing back out, she did not spend time even speaking to the sisters. Imam Siraj it was my interaction with your family at last years conference is what encouraged me to get involve. I stayed away for nearly a decade, though I kept my trust and faith in Allah. It was sickening to my stomach to see hypocrisy amongst our Islamic leaders and trust me I do not expect any of you to be perfect, I hold each of you at a higher standard than your christian counter parts. Many times I needed to speak to a imam's wife about my marriage situation, I too was married to an imam and maybe she could have assisted me when I had marital problems,I needed to speak to a imam. I had no one to turn to in the Islamic world that I trusted, my husband didn't allow me to speak to other men or imams. Its not all the time a sister want to talk to the imam but they would love to speak to the imam's wife. There are many sisters in the Islamic world who cannot seek counseling from men especially imams. If the imams only knew these brothers true ways maybe many marriages could have been saved. I have seen you with your wives and your children at many programs. Inshaallah other leaders will start following your example. by allowing their wives to work within the community. I think it is safe to speak on behalf of many sisters, we need see our leaders wives to be more active in the community and we need them to serve as a liaison between us and their husband. This way the sisters are not speaking directly to the imam. Men hate for their leaders to know their true character, and how they are mistreating their wives. Inshaallah I will get involve with MANA's marriage initiative project.

Khadijah
